National Semiconductor Corporation introduced the industry's first current-mode voltage-lowering controller between 6V and 100V. This LM5116 controller chip for telecommunications equipment, automotive electronic systems and industrial control systems has several unique advantages, such as excellent performance, flexible design and easy use, suitable for DC/DC power supply systems. This chip is a model of a series of National Semiconductor synchronous voltage-lowering controllers. It features a wider input voltage range and flexible load current control.

LM5116 chips are most suitable for low voltage regulator systems with high voltage or a wide range of input power supply voltage. The current mode control technology used is an analog current mode (ECM) control technology developed by the National Semiconductor of the United States. It has the advantage of reducing the noise interference to the pulse width modulation (PWM) circuit and ensuring that the high input voltage system which must operate with a very small duty cycle can control its duty cycle steadily. In addition, the chip has functions such as overheat shutdown, programmable soft start, frequency synchronization, weekly deadline flow, and adjustable line under-voltage locking (UVLO).

Technical Features of LM5116 Anti-Pressure Controller

The input voltage range of LM5116 chip is extremely wide, even up to 100V, and the output voltage can be set (in the range of 1.215V to 80V). Because the PWM control circuit is less sensitive to noise, it ensures that the high input voltage system with a very small duty cycle can operate steadily. When operating at a frequency of 500 kHz, the LM5116 chip can use its analog current ramp to increase the input/output voltage drop ratio to more than 20:1. Users can set their own operating frequency (up to 1 MHz) and adjust the switch frequency to synchronize with the external clock signal. Sleep mode with very low static current can temporarily invalidate the controller. Sleep mode consumes 10 mA of current, which is only a very small proportion of the total input current, so for battery-powered systems, such a low static current can significantly reduce power consumption during shutdown. In addition, the LM5116 chip has an optional analog diode continuation mode, which allows the user to discontinue the inductance current at light load to improve efficiency, and can start normally at preset load by gradually turning off the analog diode continuation function at LM5116 start-up. Analog Analog This chip also has programmable soft start, input under-voltage locking and voltage tracking functions, allowing engineers to enhance control over the entire start-up process.

The LM5116 chip is encapsulated in TSSOP-20 with higher performance, in which uncovered bare particles are attached with solder balls which can improve its heat dissipation ability. LM5116 chips are already available in large quantities, purchased in 1,000 units at a unit price of $3.25.
